The sanctity of the message of Islam and the tradition of the Holy Prophet Mohammad were kept intact through an unbroken chain of transmission by the great masters of Maktab Tarighat Oveyssi. While mainstream Islam fell into the hands of the clerics and jurists, these masters passed on the inner message of Islam through their teachings, writings, and students. Islam would not have survived had it not been for the selfless sacrifices of these great spiritual leaders. |

Sufi Practices are integral to the inward learning and discipline necessary for purification and the attainment of true self cognition. The student of Sufism with love and devotion uses the practices to develop and unfold his hidden abilities. Key Sufi practices include Prayers, Fasting, Zikr, and Tamarkoz (Sufi Meditation). The Sufi Master guides the student through every moment of his journey of self-knowledge. |

Sufism blossomed more than 1400 years ago, in the time of the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him). However, Sufism has existed since the beginning of human history, for its seed lies within every human heart. The great ninth century Sufi, Bayazid Bastami, described the history of Sufism by stating: "Its seeds were set at the time of Adam, they sprouted under Noah and flowered under Abraham. Grapes formed at the time of Moses, and ripened at the time of Jesus. In the time of Mohammad, they were made into pure wine." |
The eight principles of Sufism which facilitate the journey of self-knowledge are: Zikr (to remember God), fikr (to meditate), sahar (to awaken), jui’i (to hunger for truth), somt (to observe silence), saum (to fast), khalvat (to observe solitude), and khidmat (to serve). As the seeker puts into practice the principles presented by the Sufi Master, Hazrat Nader Angha "Pir Oveyssi", the realm of the heart and soul become accessible. The journey to the hidden realm of one's being begins, and the horizons of awareness are discovered. |
Hazrat Jalaleddin Ali Mir Abolfazl Angha is the 39th Master of the Oveyssi School. He attained the absolute state of cognition through hard work, obedience and discipline. He became the pole (qutb) of his time. In addition to receiving the leadership of Tarighat Oveyssi, he received the leadership of three other major Sufi orders.
|
Hazrat Mir Ghotbeddin Mohammad Angha, the grandfather of the present Sufi Master, continued the tradition. Hazrat Mir Ghotbeddin Mohammad Angha is the 40th Master of the Oveyssi school of Sufism. Of the dignity of his supreme position, Hazrat Molana Shah Maghsoud Sadegh Angha states: "If it were not for our Lord Mohammad, son of Mir Abolfazl Angha, the reality of ma’rifa (cognition) would never have appeared in our era."
